Virginia Brown Scholarship Applications

Residents of Brookhaven Hamlet (as defined in the BVA bylaws) who are graduating from high school in June 2020 and going to college, are eligible to apply for the Virginia Brown Scholarship.
In support of the young adults in our community, the Brookhaven Hamlet Foundation (BHF) has continued the Scholarship Fund previously administered by the Brookhaven Village Association (BVA). This year the BHF will again be awarding two scholarships. One $2,000 award and one $1000 award will be presented in June 2020.

All graduating, college-bound, high school seniors who reside in Brookhaven Hamlet are welcome to apply for the Virginia Brown Scholarship.  Applications are available here: 2020 Scholarship Application or you may pick up one at the Brookhaven Free Library.  Applications must be postmarked by April 27th, 2020

The Brookhaven Village Association and the Brookhaven Free Library are again teaming up to clean our streets. Meet at the library to join your neighbors and help make a difference. All supplies provided and all are welcome. Breakfast served directly after. Please register at the library.

Virginia Brown Scholarship Awards

The Brookhaven Hamlet Foundation awarded 2 scholarships at the Bellport HS awards night on June 4, 2018. The first place scholarship of $2000 was awarded to Emma Johnsen and the second place scholarship of $1000 was awarded to Alexis Schnyer. Congratulations to both young women and we wish them well. The essays will be published in a future newsletter.

2017 Virginia Brown Scholarship Winners

diplomaThe Scholarship Award Committee had the pleasure this year of reading through an excellent group of essays.  Each year the committee awards 2 scholarships in the amount of $2,000 and $1,000.  The winner of the $2,000 scholarship, Abigail Veitch, is attending American University and is majoring in Environmental Studies and Journalism.  The $1,000 scholarship award was granted to Isabel Fritz who is attending Gettysburg College and is majoring in History and Anthropology.     The scholarships were awarded at the BHS Senior Awards Night in June.  It was a pleasure awarding the scholarships to these fine young people.  The winning essays can be viewed in the Fall 2017 issue of the Fireplace which is mailed to all in 11719 zip code area and on the BVA website.
